Overseas Student Health Insurance
What are the mandatory OSHC requirements for a Subclass 500 visa?
- The Department of Home Affairs requires that OSHC must start no later than your arrival date, cover the entire visa duration, be purchased from an approved provider, and proof of cover must be submitted with your visa application.
When should I purchase OSHC and can I modify or cancel it?
- It is recommended to purchase OSHC before applying for a visa. Refunds and changes depend on the insurer’s policy. In case of visa refusal or course changes, policies may be refundable or adjustable depending on conditions.
What about insurance for dependents?
- Dependents (spouse or children) must also have compliant insurance. A family plan is recommended as it is more cost-effective than individual policies.
What additional coverage should I consider?
- It is recommended to consider extras such as dental and physiotherapy cover, as standard OSHC does not include these but they are commonly needed during study.
Will OSHC be affected if I change schools or courses?
- No. OSHC is linked to your visa, not your school. As long as the policy remains valid and covers your visa duration, changing schools or courses will not affect your coverage.
