What is the difference between Sonder and my health insurance (such as OSHC)?
- OSHC primarily covers Medical Expenses incurred from doctor consultations and hospitalization. Sonder is a safety and lifestyle support service; it does not directly pay medical bills but provides 24/7 multilingual phone support, safety escorts, mental health support, and local life navigation for immediate assistance in non-medical emergencies.
Under what circumstances should I contact Sonder?
- You can contact Sonder anytime for support and guidance if you feel unsafe (e.g., walking alone late at night), require urgent but non-life-threatening medical advice, feel anxious or lonely and need someone to talk to, or have questions regarding local laws, transportation, or culture.
Do I need to pay extra for Sonder services?
- Most international students do not need to pay additional fees for Sonder, provided that your educational institution or Insurer has already included the service. Please confirm your Plan Coverage with your school or program organizer. As Sonder is an official partner of Allianz, customers who Purchase an Insurance Plan (Allianz OSHC) through uniteCare will receive Sonder access for a duration equal to their Coverage Period.
Can Sonder call an ambulance for me or replace a hospital visit?
- No. While Sonder’s nursing team can provide medical advice, in life-threatening emergencies, they will instruct you to dial the local emergency number (000) immediately. Sonder is a powerful auxiliary support system but cannot replace professional emergency medical services.
How long is the complimentary Sonder access when purchasing Allianz through uniteCare?
- Customers who Purchase an Insurance Plan (Allianz OSHC) through uniteCare will be granted Sonder access for a duration that matches their Coverage Period.
